This Step helps you to understand current innovation performance in your local area. We ask you to consider your innovation eco-system (i.e. the participants supporting innovation locally) and provide data to help you understand your area’s comparative performance.
Most available innovation data is captured at regional rather than local level, therefore, care is needed when interpreting innovation data – we provide more detail on this within ‘Background to understanding local performance in innovation’.
The toolkit provides access to the following data filterable by your region and/or local area:
- Expenditure on innovation as a proportion of total expenditure at regional level
- Regional data on “innovation active” firms extrapolated to local authorities
- Innovate UK funding awarded at regional level
- Higher Education Business & Community Interaction (HE-BCI) survey
